마지막 가는 집
Each one's praise will come from God. - 1 Corinthians 4:5
"그 때에 각 사람에게 하나님께로부터 칭찬이 있으리라." － 고린도전서 4:5
An elderly missionary couple who had served God for 50 years in a remote
African village returned to the United States for a well-earned retirement. When
they arrived, however, no one was there to greet them because of some
confusion at the mission office. They had no one to help them with their
suitcases and trunks, and no one to move them into their home. The old
gentleman complained to his wife, "We've come home after all these years and
there's no one who cares."
The man's bitterness grew as they settled into their new home. His wife, a bit
fed up with his complaining, suggested that he take up the matter with God. So
the man went to his bedroom and spent time in prayer. When he came out he
had a new look on his face, which prompted his wife to ask what had
happened.
"Well," he replied, "I told God that I've come home and no one cares." "And
what did God say?" she asked. "He said, 'You're not home yet.'"
You too may serve for years in a place where no one notices you or cares
what you've done. But God sees and cares. One day, when we reach our
eternal home, "each one's praise will come from God" (1 Corinthians 4:5). In
the meantime, let's be faithful (v.2). - David Roper
아프리카의 오지 마을에서 50년 동안 하나님을 섬긴 연로한 선교사 부부가 이제 그
들의 노고에 합당한 은퇴생활을 위해 미국으로 돌아왔습니다. 그러나 선교 사무국의
착오로 그들이 도착하였을 때에는 아무도 마중을 나오지 않았습니다. 옷 가방과 짐 가
방을 들어줄 사람도 없었고 집에 까지 운반해 줄 사람도 없었습니다. 노신사는 아내에
게 "그 많은 세월을 보내고 집에 돌아왔는데 누구 하나 관심을 보이지 않는구려"하며
불평을 하였습니다.
그 선교사의 서운함은 새 집에 정착하면서 점점 더 커졌습니다. 남편의 불만에 조금
씩 실증이 난 부인은 그 문제를 가지고 하나님과 상의해보라고 제안하였습니다. 그래
서 그는 침실로 들어가 기도로 시간을 보냈습니다. 달라진 표정으로 방에서 나오는 그
에게 아내는 즉시 무슨 일이 있었느냐고 물었습니다.
"하나님께 내가 집에 왔는데 아무도 관심을 가져 주지 않는다고 여쭈었지"라고 하는
남편의 대답에 부인은 "그래 하나님께서 뭐라고 하시던가요?" 라고 물었습니다. "하나
님께서 "너는 아직 집에 온 것이 아니야" 라고 말씀하셨어"라고 대답했습니다.
당신은 아무도 당신을 알아주거나 살펴주지 않는 곳에서 여러 해 동안 봉사할 수 있습
니다. 그러나 하나님께서는 보고 계시고 살펴주십니다. 언젠가 우리가 우리의 영원한
집에 다다를 때 "각 사람에게 하나님께로부터 칭찬" (고전 4:5)이 있을 것입니다. 그때
까지 충성을 다 합시다 (2절).
