The Sunday after the disaster, a local minister carried to his pulpit an unbroken
vase, which was the only thing recovered from his home. He asked his
congregation, "Do you know why this is still here and my house is gone?" He
answered his own question by saying, "Because this had passed through the
fire once before."

재난이 있은 다음 주일날 마을의 목사님은 그의 불탄 집에서 유일하게 남아있던 깨지
지 않은 꽃병 하나를 강대상에 가지고 왔습니다. 그리고 이렇게 회중에게 물었습니
다. “우리 집은 불에 타서 없어졌는데도 이 꽃병은 어떻게 아직도 남아 있는지 아십니
까?” 그는 자신의 질문에 이렇게 대답했습니다. “왜냐하면 이 꽃병은 이전에 불을 견
뎌내는 과정을 이미 거쳤기 때문입니다.”

Can the fiery trials of life actually prove to be a blessing? The apostle Peter
indicated to us that they can. He explained that various trials can result
in "praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 1:6-7).


살면서 겪을 수 있는 불 같은 시련들이 실제로 축복이 되는 일이 있을까요? 베드로 사
도는 그렇게 될 수 있다고 우리에게 말했습니다. 그는 여러 가지의 시련이 “예수 그리
스도의 나타나실 때에 칭찬과 영광과 존귀” (벧전 1:6-7)가 될 수 있다고 하였습니다.
